3 April 2004, Saturday, Late Morning Karen had talked with Maja Kurlandt by phone the previous evening and made arrangements for all of us to meet her in Tuchola. Maja is the daughter of Lidia Matia Kurlandt. We had previously become acquainted through this family website. We were to drive to Tuchola, call Maja and she would meet us. Maja was driving up from Warsaw where she works. The whole group of us drove to Tuchola (Tuchel) to meet Maja. Unfortunately, Maja had a family emergency and had to defer the meeting until later in the day. We spent a few hours walking through Tuchola and window shopping. Then we drove back toward Chojnice (Konitz) and stopped in Zalno (Sehlen). |

Follow this link to the official Tuchola Website. There are some photo galleries, but we haven't found a link to the history yet. We parked by this church. It was originally Lutheran (Evangelical), but is now owned by the Catholic church and being remodeled. This inside is further along than the outside. |

We came upon this sign as we approached a remaining portion of the old city wall. The wall is no longer complete. We believe this sign describes the fortified city as it was historically. We need to get this translated. The following links are to legible closeups: |
