Mathia family found in Groß Kottorz:

The Family History Library has the Catholic church recors from Groß Kottorz. They are under the title: Kirchenbuch, 1687-2004, Katholische Kirche Groß Kottorz (Kr. Oppeln), Roman Catholic parish registers and transcipts of baptisms, marriage banns, marriages, deaths and proclamations, communicants and various papers for Groß Kottorz, also called Groß Kochen, Schlesien (Silesia), Germany, now Kotórz Wielki, Opole, Poland. 18 rolls of microfilm.

Jerry von Gostomski found the Mathia name in a few marriages from this parish, and Kurt Matthia followed up by scanning the index of baptisms (film 2205187 item 6) of that parish from 1692 to 2000 as pertains to the letter "M" in the alphabet. These images contain what appears to be many occurances and multiple spellings of the MATHIA surname:

A possible activity during our 2006 research trip would be to assess the Groß Kottorz records to determine if there are any connections with other known MATHIA families and to make a plan for extracting these records.
