Herta was born 19 September 1906 in Mareese,
Kreis (District) Marienwerder, Westpreußen (West Prussia), Germany. Today,
this place is called Mareza, Kwidzyn, Poland. She died
17 August 1995 while living with her niece Regina Ball Gucker
in Grossheppach, Bei Stuttgart, Wurttemberg, Germany.

taken in 1984, so the house probably looked somewhat different
in Hildegard's. This house is below the Marienwerder Cathedral,
across the Liebe river, and the road follows the route of
the former Marienwerder Kleinbahn (small-guage railroad).
 The
house on Lazarettstraße in Marienwerder where Herta was
born in 1909. The family had moved here sometime after 1906. This
photo was taken in the mid-1930s, shortly after the house
received a new stucco finish. Herta's parents are at the
top of the steps in the right-hand frame.

married Paul Gerhard Willi Lange on 29 May 1954. Here is
a wedding photo. Their home was in Magdeburg, D.D.R. [East
Germay].
