Current Research Issue 05 Michael Mathia and Marianna Kurland Family
Our
records for the Michael Mathia and Marianna
Kurland familiy start with their oldest known child
in 1834 and end with the youngest known child in 1848.
The entire time, the family lived in Sehlen and went
to Reetz parish.
We have now found a marriage
record for a Michael Mathia and Marianna Kurland
dated 15 Nov 1830 in Jelencz parish, which isn't
much more south of Sehlen than Reetz is north. This
is on FHL film 814585, Item 6, page 105. Link
to marriage record. This record shows the couple
living in Groß Medromierz. The ages given on the
record are groom 30 (1800), bride 23 (1807).
A possible problem in deciding
these are the same family is the death record associated
with Michael showing age 85 (1793). If this is really his
death record, then his first child was born when he was
41 and the last when he was 55.
If it is the same couple, there
is also a possibility of finding earlier children in Jelencz,
Reetz, or other parishes.
We don't have a good match
for a Michael born in 1800 either, but he may have been
born in the Medromierz area, which we haven't yet researched
all that well.

Hi Kurt,
It sure sounds like we have the same family, except for your observation
about his age when the oldest & youngest child was born.
Here's the research note from his death record:
** 05/20/2002: Found #1194892, item 18, page 15: death record of MICHAEL
MATHIA, on 03/16/1878 at 4:00 p.m., age 85 (est DOB 1793), of Seelen. Child of
xxxxxxxx. Date of burial - 03/1878 in Reetz, Tuchel, West Prussia. Survived by
xxxx. Reported by Michael Milkowski, nephew of deceased. Cause: xxxx. NOTE:
wife Marianna, born Kurland, was with Michael Mathia when he died, but was too
feeble to register the death.
Notice, that a nephew reported the death because the wife was "too
feeble". Perhaps the newphew had the age too old ---- in which case the "1800"
on the marriage record would then be reasonable.
